A project built around losing

How two anonymous traders turned self-deprecation into a 2021 BSC meme-DeFi project.

Two anonymous founders

Press accounts described LoserSwap’s co-founders as “a poor young man from a fourth-tier city in China” and “another poor programmer.” One was a father of two from a village. The other was a programmer working roughly 60-hour weeks.

Both had first entered Bitcoin and crypto around 2017. By the time they started LoserSwap, both had lost significant amounts of money trading.

A no-ICO launch

LoserSwap and $LOWB launched publicly on April 21, 2021 without an ICO. The founders said they put their own life savings into the initial liquidity pool with a “zero mentality”: they were fully prepared to lose it all.

“Let Loser Be Great Again”

The brand drew from a self-deprecating culture among Chinese retail investors. Traders sometimes referred to themselves as “chives,” implying that large institutional players repeatedly harvested them. LoserSwap’s counter-pitch was that “when all losers around the world come together, they could build a force second to none.” Its slogan distilled that idea: “Let Loser Be Great Again.”

The founders even joked that the project’s “secret real goal” was to go to zero. That self-aware humor was central to the project rather than an aside.

From WeChat to international coverage

An online AMA went viral on WeChat, triggering a wave of retail interest despite—or because of—the losing-themed framing. International crypto press followed. CoinDesk published “LoserSwap’s LOWB Is Badge of Honor for Self-Deprecating Chinese Crypto Traders” on May 11, 2021. The same story was syndicated by Yahoo Finance.

Current status

The original loserswap.com website and DEX front-end are defunct. Before this domain was re-acquired on July 6, 2026, it had zero DNS records: nobody was operating a service on it. This replacement is an independent historical archive, not a revival of the exchange.

The LOWB token still has market-data listings on services including CoinMarketCap, Coinbase, and Gate.com. CoinMarketCap’s LOWB listing is one example. Aggregators can list tokens independently of project activity, so listing presence does not mean LoserSwap is actively maintained. This archive is not affiliated with the token, its founders, or those listing services.
